How Love Heals

How love heals

Louise Hay asked once, “Do you truly know how to love yourself? Love is the greatest healing and drawing power on earth. It is the very reason for our being and that explains why it is important for people to love something or someone.

Ernest Holmes went so far to say that you are not living if you are not loving. None of us can swing out into the universe without love as the whole universe is based on it”.

Holmes thought, “Our greatest need is to feel that we are needed, wanted, loved and or doing something of importance. Most of us feel we belong to something and to have things we do that are important and people we care deeply about.

Do you believe in yourself? This inner power works for us by working through us. It cannot work for us in any other way, it is working everywhere in all people in all places. Once we come to know this and surrender trying to run this show, we make a decision to trust the process of life increasingly turning our life and will over to this higher aspect. We become empowered by letting go and trusting life.

Another well-known line from spiritual groups many of you have heard is we have come to believe that a power greater than ourselves which we are a part of is restoring us, to our rightful place, a place of greatness that we never could quite attain by ourselves alone. Let me paraphrase an old scripture. The kingdom of good is at hand. The presence and the power are here in you operating through you right now.

Will you let it in? Will you let it express? Don’t you think it is time?

Spirit within does the healing work. What is ours to do in the process of healing, might be the better question.  What can we do to heal? “All healing is self-healing”.

Spirit or this presence, this love needs to be invited into our thoughts, hearts and minds, having that consciousness of unity of oneness.

It’s about consciousness, some 15-20 years ago another generation of people discovered the law or the law of attraction through a movie the Secret. The movie swept the country and the world. The beloved beautiful great Genie in the Sky was saying over and over, “Your wish is my Command”. You have the power to heal your life.

A sponsor in a 12-step program 40 years ago said to me, “Greg, you can have almost anything you want if you are willing to pay the price”. Look at Louise Hay’s, You Can Heal Your Life. Oh, my goodness. People want self-healing, people want better self-esteem, they want peace. In a word, people want more.

Seriously people want to end conflict, the inner conflict, inner turmoil. People want not to be afraid of so many things. There is so much fear and worry percolating, ruminating in people right now.

I am in a unique position in life right now since I am in a relatively great place. I will tell you I am so grateful to my parents and the lessons I got from both of them and then somehow the grace of the Universe put one of Louise Hay’s audios in my hand in the mid 80s. It was a stream of positive messages that came to me over a period of 2-3 years that changed me, a person who wanted it all, and living in a rather clueless way into the person I have become.

I was in inner pain then in my early 20’s. Most people didn’t know.  I entered a 12-step program in 1980 that suggested I needed to “surrender to win” and because I was up against it, feeling miserable so often, faking it and dealing with circumstances I was willing to make a change, willing to listen and learn. That was an important first step that somehow through grace I was willing. Willingness is the key that opens so many doors.

People want to have great lives, happiness, good health and good relationships. They want and most sadly are left wanting. They want to be super attractors which is a phrase Gabby Bernstein is using in her books for a younger generation. Books and ideas such as hers have been around for a long time. There is nothing new about the New Thought. It is timeless, ageless.  Every generation speaks of what we teach some are deep, some are eloquent. I spent a number of years reading and studying R W Emerson.

Louise Hay was clear, she said “I am not a healer. I do not heal anyone. I think of myself as a stepping-stone on a pathway of self-discovery”.  She started out as a practitioner here with us.  We were the famous First Church of Religious Science in NYC and this was the Home of Raymond Charles Barker, Author of the “Power of Decision “and other books. Our most famous Student as some of you know was Louise Hay who wrote the Book you can heal your life. Yes, she was a student here and studied here and published her first book here.

Regarding healing, over 25 years ago Louise again said: “I don’t heal anyone. I create a space where people can learn how     incredibly wonderful they are, there by teaching them to love themselves”.

After years of individual counseling with clients and conducting hundreds of workshops and intensive training programs across the country and around the world, I found that there is only one thing that heals every problem, and that is: “To know how to love yourself.   When people start to love themselves more each day, it’s amazing how their lives get better. They feel better. They get the jobs they want. They start to have the money they need. Their relationships either improve, or the negative one’s dissolve and new ones begin. It’s a very simple premise, loving yourself.
